If I could specialise in one area of massage I would pick helping people with headaches. Why? because what I do works and I trust it completely at my Saffron Walden recovery room.
I get headaches & I feel your pain.
Headaches can be caused for many reasons (I am not a doctor) and it's best you don't Google your symptoms.
Headaches caused by tension and tight muscles can be helped by sports and deep tissue massage at my room in Saffron Walden.
Like...seriously....a decent massage can prevent tension headaches and give you some serious freedom from headaches.
Massage The Jaw
The jaw, particularly the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), plays a crucial role in everyday activities like talking and chewin..but when it’s misaligned or overworked, it can lead to headaches. Tension in the jaw muscles, teeth grinding , or TMJ disorders can create referred pain that radiates to the temples, forehead, or neck. Often mistaken for tension headaches or migraines, these jaw-related headaches are surprisingly common and can be relieved through stress management, jaw exercises, or going to a dentist. Simple massage on the jaw, which you can do yourself will melt tension away!
Your Upper Back and Neck
Another often-overlooked area that can cause headaches is the neck and shoulders. When muscles in the upper back, neck, or along the base of the skull become tense, often due to poor posture, stress, or prolonged screen time this can trigger tension headaches. These headaches typically feel like a tight band around the head and may radiate from the neck upward. Massage therapy can be incredibly effective in releasing this muscular tension, improving blood flow, and providing lasting relief from these common, posture-related headaches.
Massage can help..but so does breathwork
Breathwork can be a powerful tool in relieving headaches, especially those caused by stress and tension. Shallow or rapid breathing can keep the body in a heightened state of stress, tightening muscles in the neck, shoulders, and jaw. Conscious breathing techniques help calm the nervous system, increase oxygen flow, and relax tight muscle, often reducing the frequency and intensity of headaches. Incorporating simple breathwork after your massage sessions or self-care routine can enhance overall relaxation and support long-term headache relief
