When should you not get a sports massage in Saffron Walden?
Some medical conditions means that a deep tissue massage or sports massage will not be appropriate.
At my massage room located in the middle of Saffron Walden i see many athletes and office workers who are desprate to feel better. However, sometimes massage is not a good idea. We can sometimes modify it to avoid certian areas.
Here are some typical issues that might mean someone should not get a massage / deep tissue massage or sports massage
Suspected DVT / blood clot — especially a swollen, hot, painful calf or unexplained one-sided swelling.
Recent fracture or suspected fracture — don't massage the area.
Recent major surgery — particularly before medical clearance/healing.
Open wounds, significant burns or unhealed skin — don't massage over them.
Active infection / fever — systemic illness is a reason to postpone.
Acute severe injury — e.g. suspected major muscle tear, significant ligament injury or fresh traumatic injury with substantial swelling/bruising.
Uncontrolled bleeding or bleeding disorders — particularly where there is a high bleeding risk.
Suspected cancerous mass or unexplained lump — don't massage directly over it; refer for assessment.
Severe unexplained pain — particularly sudden or unusual pain that hasn't been medically assessed.
Acute inflammatory skin conditions or contagious skin infections — e.g. cellulitis.
Please really be aware that Sports massage is NOT phsyio.
Remember with certain conditions we can work around. For example - a unexplaned lump, we can massage a totally different area.
